A fun date doesn’t have to be super expensive. While you probably think of Old Montreal, or Old Port, as a more touristy area, it can be fun to embrace your inner tourist now and then. A ride on the Ferris wheel (La Grande Roue de Montréal) at sunset can be a romantic outing, providing some wonderful views of the Saint Lawrence River and spark a conversation. Consider pairing this with a roving feast at the many local food trucks in the area. Pick a truck to share an appetizer at. After walking a bit, pick another for the main course and finally grab dessert at another. This can be a fun way to experience some variety and is a date that won’t break the bank.

There is something exhilarating about going to a speakeasy. Maybe it is the secretive feeling of the establishments. Perhaps it is just getting a window to the past. Whatever it is, having drinks at a speakeasy is a great way to break up the monotony of typical dinner & drink dates.

Find a cozy spot in the expansive park for great food and better conversation. Afterwards, take some time to bike around the park or rent a paddle boat to enjoy time on Beaver Lake. This is another inexpensive date option that your significant other is sure to love and remember.

Montreal has a thriving arts scene, and I always think that a perfect first-date idea is to check out some art. There are many benefits to this. First, if the date isn’t going great, it is relatively easy to cut it short. However, if you are having a great time, you can easily make your outing last longer or even add on drinks & dessert after.

There are many ways to see art on a date. You can visit one of the many museums or galleries such as McCord Museum, Chateau Dufresne, Musee René Gagnon, The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts or La Guilde. You can also simply take a stroll through neighbourhoods or down Saint-Laurent Boulevard and enjoy looking at the city’s many murals. This is a great date for sparking conversation.

Embrace Your Inner Child
